Boy Dies After Skating Into Traffic
Hayden Schmitz Died on April 7, 2004

A young boy was tragically killed in North Plains Oregon USA on April 7, 2004 when he skated into an intersection at the bottom of a hill.

Nine year old Hayden Schmitz was killed on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 when he skated into traffic at the end of a downhill run.

The accident happened about 2:20 in the afternoon. Hayden Schmitz and his brother were skating northbound on Northwest 309th Avenue. At the bottom of that downhill slope, Hayden skated past a stop sign and was immediately struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The boy was flown by helicoptor to Oregon Health and Sciences University, but because of his massive head and chest injuries the doctors were not able to save him.

The driver of the vehicle, 43 year old Candice Dalesky, was determined not to be speeding and was not cited.
