Florida Teen Killed in Skating Accident
February 19, 2004 in Tampa, Florida

A teenage girl was killed in Tampa, Florida on Thursday, February 19, 2004 when she fell in front of a truck while roller skating with friends after the group had been drinking.

19 year old Vanessa Sperry-Rask was skating with two of her friends along busy North Dale Mabry Highway at 4:20 a.m. When they attempted to cross the street, Vanessa fell down in front of a Ford pick-up truck driven by Matthew Miller of Tampa. The girl was immediately transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, but she died shortly after arriving there.

At the time of the accident there was a heavy fog in the air, and while the three teenagers had been drinking, it is not known if they were legally drunk.
