Attention Brazilian Skaters + Latin X Games Skaters I have not nearly finished publishing my photos of the Latin X Games or my photos of me and my friends skating on beach trails in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week. I have been swamped with a backlog of skating articles and news, but you will see all of my photos from Brazil very soon (PS - hello and a big happy smile to the skaters of RioInline.com.br and
CpiMag.com - it was such a pleasure to meet you all!) |

Happy Birthday to Tony Hawk
Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk was born on May 12, 1968 in San Diego, California USA.
Tony is the most famous rider in skateboarding history because of his many gold medals, his contributions to the sport, his company "Birdhouse Skateboards", his autobiographical books, and most recently the wildly popular "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" video game series. Have a wonderful birthday Tony! (I would love to talk sometime...)[View Larger Photo] |
Photos of Skating in Rio are Coming Soon
I'm home from my long weekend trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where I took photos of the 2004 Latin American X Games, spent lots of time with the local skaters, and skated all over Rio on many of the city's most beautiful paved trails.
MY PHOTOS: As usual I took *way* too many photos so I am going take a new approach to posting my trip photos this time. Instead of letting myself feel overwhelmed by the unbelievably huge task of editing thousands and posting hundreds of photos from Brazil, I will try to post at least one page every day of "Latin X Games" photos and one page every day of "Skating in Rio" photos, until all of my best pictures from Brazil are on the Web. NOTE TO SKATERS AND FANS: I need help identifying many of the skaters in my Latin X Games pictures, because their helmet numbers were not always visible. If you might be able to help identify the inline skaters or skateboard riders in my pictures, please send a note to
kathiefry@skatelog.com. ABOUT THIS PHOTO: This picture is the view of Leme Beach from my room at the Le Meridian Hotel. Leme Beach is on one end of Copacabana Beach and this is where the skate park and vert ramp were set up for the 2004 Latin X Games. There is also a paved skating trail for many miles along this beach, making Rio de Janeiro one of the best and most beautiful skating destinations in the world. Photos and trip reports coming soon... |

Tomorrow I Am Off to Brazil - Woo Hoo!
On May 6 I will fly to Brazil for four days at the Latin X Games in Rio de Janeiro... assuming my Brazilian visa is ready tomorrow morning at 9 am. I'm a bit nervous about that because the
whole trip is off if my visa is not ready in time for me to catch my 1:30 pm flight. But our local Brazilian Consulate assures me that it WILL be ready and I plan to be sleeping on their doorstep with my skate bag and suitcase next to me when they arrive in the morning to open their office. In any case, I'm not going waste time worrying when I should be packing and getting excited about finally meeting Erika and Fernando and all of the other skating Cariocas in Rio. Mmmmmmmmm...I can hear the dancing (and skating) music already... |
Sunday I Will Be Skating in Rio
I'm flying to Brazil on Thursday for 4 days in Rio de Janeiro... more about that soon, but in the meantime here are some photos of skating in Rio and an announcement of the event I am attending (these photos were provided by Erika Cordeiro who I will be meeting in person soon. Thank you to Dave Parcells who connected me with Erika on his cell phone from the Disney Marathon - that was so cool!)

City Bans Skateboarding But Doesn't Abandon Skaters
Before Billings, Montana USA voted in their current "no skateboarding" law they raised money for a $500,000 world class skatepark. The park is not quite completed yet, but this weekend skaters were allowed to try it out for the first time. When the park is finished it will have bright lighting for skating at night and a 13 foot bronze statue of a skateboarder
