History

1966
Three brothers, brothers Paul Van Doren and James Van Doren and Gordon C. Lee opened their first shoe store, named "The Van Doren Rubber Company" on March 16, 1966 at 704 East Broadway in Anaheim, Southern California.

1970's
Thirteen year old Mark Van Doren, the son of Vans president and co-owner James Van Doren designed the first versionof the Vans logo because he wanted to spray it on his skateboards. James van Doren was inspired to manufacture skateboard shoes because of his son's interest in that sport.

1988
Paul Van Doren and Gordon C. Lee sold the Vans company to the banking firm McCown De Leeuw & Co. for US$74.4 million.

1996
Vans began sponsoring the Warped Tour rock music festival in 1966. and its named was changed to the "Vans Warped Tour". The first Warped Tour was held in 1995, founded by Kevin Lyman. The 23rd edition of the Warped Tour in 2018 was the last edition.

1998
Vans opened its first skatepark in 1998 at the Outlets at Orange in the City of Orange in Southern California. The park featured a 20,000 square foot indoor street course and an outdoor street course.

2003
Vans began negotiating with the landlords of its 11 skateparks for lease terminations or rent reductions. Three of those skateparks were owned by the Mills Corporation, two were owned by the Simon Property Group, one was owned by PREIT, and one was owned by Belz. According to the management of Vans, half of its skateparks were breaking even and half were losing moneyl. At the time the company's most profitable skatepark was the 42,355 square foot park the city of Orange. Two other Southern California skateparks were likey to be shut down, including Ontario Mills i(47,328 square feet) and Potomac Mills (62,778 square feet). Those two skateparks were hoping to find a new owner so they could continue operatig.

2004
Vans announced its plans to merge with the North Carolina based VF Corporation.

2009
The Vans skatepark in the city of Orange was updated.

2010
Vans built its first skatepark in the city of Huntington beach, Southern California. The park included a 17,500 square foot skate bowl and a 25,000 square foot skate plaza, making the entire park 42,500 square feet.

2014
The House of Vans skatepark situated underneath Waterloo station first opened in the Summer of 2014. A complex spread across five tunnels under Waterloo station included an indoor skatepark with a concrete bowl, a street section, and mini ramps.
