Six Central American countries
were represented: Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala,
Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.
El Salvador did not participate in 2006.
About Venues and Host Cities
The 8th Central American Games were originally scheduled for December 9-18, 2005
in Guatemala with the support of El Salvador. The damages
caused by Hurricane Stan in October of 2005 caused the host to
change with Managua becoming the main host city
and with venues distributed over five Central American countries.
- Nicaragua: athletics, baseball, bodybuilding, boxing
- Panama: basketball, fencing, softball, swimming, wrestling
- Costa Rica: chess, racquetball, taekwondo, triathlon
- Guatemala: cycling, equestrian, shooting, weightlifting
- Honduras: judo, table tennis
