Outdoor paved speed skating track also
known as Patinódromo de Coña Coña because
it is ssituated adjacent to the
Coña Coña Lagoon in Villa Busch,
Cochabamba, Bolivia
Construction of track began on July 7, 2017
so it could be completed in time to host
roller sports events at the
South American Sports Games Cochabamba 2018
(in Spanish: Juegos Deportivos Sudamericanos Cochabamba 2018).
Controversy Surround the Coña Coña Skating Track
Before the Coña Coña skating track was built their was controversy
around the construction project
and the effect it would have on the Coña Coña Lagoon.
Some local residents and activists were against it
and the collective "No To Tree Felling" was organized
to fight against the project.
Construction of the track began on July 7, 2017
after the Bolivian courts denied the petition of
activists to prevent it. Construction had
ben delayed for three months, and it was expected that
the project would be completed within 10 months.
From the city government:
"The Municipal Government of Cochabamba has legal,
legal, technical, environmental arguments to build this work."

"The Panamerican Skating Confederation (CPP) and the
South American Confederation (CSP) yesterday inspected
the municipal skating rink that is being built in the
Coña Coña area and were "somewhat calm" with
the advance of 5 percent that this infrastructure has,
with a view to the 2018 South American Games.
In addition, they pledged their help so that the
stage has all the required conditions and that
the discipline is one of the "most practiced in the country.
The municipal skating rink began its construction on
July 7 amid a social conflict, led by activist movements
and a sector of the residents of that area, who did not want
the work to be built because one of the the few green areas that the city has left."
