A new roller skating association in Tahiti "Ta'ui Moe Na" hosted the first Papeete Friday Night Skate in downtown Papeete on the island of Tahiti. On September 29, 2000, more than 60 skaters, mostly on inline skates, went swooshing in, around, and out of the city, and alongside the newly renovated docks. Ta'ui Moe Na has more than 100 members, and one of the main goals of the group is to work with low-income families, teaching them the value of discipline and hard work through skating and other activities. Salomon Sports and speedskater Eddy Matzger have provided a great deal of support to this group, donating both time and skating equipment. Many thanks to Christopher Pierre of Way Beyond Travel and Eddy Matzger of SkateCentral Dot Com for keeping us informed about skating news and events in Tahiti.
