The IJshal Leeuwarden was an indoor artificial ice rink in
Leeuwarden, next to the WTC Expo. In addition to an outside
track of 220 meters, the Ice Hall also had an inside
track of 30 x 60 meters (comparable to the four
so-called Ton Menken ice halls elsewhere in the
Netherlands). Ice hockey clubs, short track clubs
and curling clubs from Leeuwarden and the
surrounding area used this indoor track.
The chillers were permanently shut down on March 22, 2015.
The track was the second track in the Region of
Friesland, next to Thialf. The new Elfstedenhal
has been built in the vicinity of the old ice rink.
This 400 meter track, plus ice hockey rink, was
opened at the end of 2015.
