Skate 309
The Skate 309 roller rink at 2117 Bethlehem Pike in
the Hatfield/Hilltown area of Pennsylvania closed on April 7, 2007.
The owners closed it because (1) a local auto dealership gave them a very good offer,
(2) the rink owners were being kept very busy managing another rink in New Jersey,
and (3) because participation in the rink's public sessions had
dropped to about 120 to 150 skaters per night. The rink was sold to
Peruzzi Toyota who planned to use it for an auto servicing facility.
The Skate 309 Roller Rink was located inside a 20,000 square foot, steel walled building
on 46 acres of land. The rink had a 152 x 73 foot
maple wood floor and something called a "train wall" (what was that?). It was also
the home of a senior citizens roller skating club. The property was
sold by Jay Johnson of Drylander LLC and two other co-owners.
The rink was owned by Murphy Maede from 1993 to 2003 and before
that it was owned by Harold and William Christman.
