The first ice skating rink in Africa was built in 1909, African Party's club on Eloff Street in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Wembley Ice Rink built in 1937 in Springfield, Johannesburg, South Africa. The South African Ice Skating Association was founded that same year and it became an ice figure skating and ice speedskating member of the International Skating Union in 1938. The association's membership with the ISU was revoked in 1950 due to the countries segration policies that began in 1948 continued until the early 1990's when iti began being dismantled.
