The sport of figure skating was popular
in Estonia by the early 1900's. The first
Estonian Ice Figure Skating Championships
were held on February 26, 1917 at
the Tallinn Kalev Ice Skating Rink.
That event was the beginning of formal
competitive figure skating in Estonia.
Estonian figure skating was represented by the Estonian Winter
Sports Union (EWSU) before the Second World War,
but when Est was occupied during the war,
EWSU's membership in the International Skating
Union (ISU) was discontinued.
The Estonian Skating Union's membership in the International
Skating Union was restored on January 23, 1991, allowig
Estoniaq to once again compete internationally at
ISU-sanctioned events as an independent country.
Estonia has competed in all Olympic Gamers
and many ISU-sanctioned competitions since 1992.
It has hosted international ice figure skating
events includeing the
European Figure Skating Championships in 2010
and the Junior World Figure Skating Championships in 2015.
