Palais de Glace d'Anvers (1913-2016)
Former ice skating rink in the city of Antwerp
that was originally a roller skating rink
known as the "Skating du Cercle".
That roller rink was designed by Walter
Van Kuyck and it first opened in 1910.
That eventually failed due to financial
issues. A new company called "Palais de Glace"
was formed with the goal of
transforming the roller rink into an ice rink
and their new ice rink opened in 1913.
The rink was the venue for the ice figure skating
and ice hockey competitions at the
Summer (not Winter) Olympics in 1920
and it was the venue for the European Ice Hockey
Championships in 1923.
At some point the rink closed and the
building was used for commercial purposes
and in 2016 the entire structure was
demolished and new apartments were built
in its placce.
