Week 2 - Moms on Skates
May 1 - May 7, 2004
My second week on skates started with a lesson by Nat Holt of
the California Skate School. He is a
great instructor. He corrected my strides, turns and stops. He
added some extra techniques that use the edges of my skates. It was really great!
After a 2 hour lesson I felt more in control on my skates. My goal for the
2nd week on skates is to master the basic skills taught to
me by my first inline skating instructors, Brian Gallagher and Nat Holt.
This week I practiced for one hour every other day.
Now I am skating faster, stopping with better control, and striding
with more confidence. But everything is not perfect
because my knees and legs are still sore from
falling down too much last week.
I took anti-inflammatory pills to help my knees heal faster.
I want more practice time, so I need
to arrange my busy schedule to get get more time on skates.
Here are some new things I have not told you about myself. I
have a 2 years old son and a sister-in-law named Natalie Ho.
When I started this "learn how to skate" project,
Natalie to join me. She and I both have 2 year old sons.
We live close to each other and the boys
go to the same daycare center. Natalie and I agreed to bring the kids
to the playground every day and take turn watching them so the other mom
can skate. It works out perfect. The boys can have fun with the slides
and watching their mommys skating and falling.
