Week 6: Skating Instead of Yoga
June 1 - June 7, 2004
I had foot-sore-problem with my new Salomon Ellite Magneseum
skate. I told Nat about it, and he said that the boot can be
stretched. Beside, I visited doctor and found out that my left
heel are way bigger than my right one.
On Jun 2, I had a very good lesson with Nat. He showed me a
ton of new techniques:
-
skate with sissor position to overcome obstacles
-
stride with feet close together and transfer the weight from one
feet to the other.
-
parallel turns with more control in the inside foot. More weight
on the inside foot.
-
Lean forward more and get low on my upper body
-
relax and pay attention to the environment.
-
cross over
I took my skate to Lincoln school to practice the new techniques.
I spent more than an hour to practice paralel turns and cross over.
I skate faster and turns quicker. I returned to California Skate
School on Saturday, Jun 5. It was a cool day. We have a bunch of
beginner skaters. I joined Nat class with two other girls. I
practiced cross over and stride techniques. It was fun. These
days, I don't want to skate on the trails at all. I want to be
able to learned all the skills and be mastered on them before
hitting a long distance ride.
Since I start skating, I have been cutting down other types of
excercise. I used to do yoga twice a week and bike almost
everyday at my lunch break. For the last month, I could not
keep up with my biking. One thing is that I need to rest to be
able to skate again. Other thing is 'I can't wait to put on my
skate again as soon as I took them off'. One day, I was skating
on the beach trail at Manhattan Beach. I saw Bonnie Johansson,
my yoga teacher running toward me. She excused me for "cheating
on her by going skating instead of going to yoga class".
I have been practiced with Bonnie for more than 2 years.
I laught so hard and promiss her to go back to yoga as soon
as I meet an OK point on my skate.
