Diary of a Beginning Marathon Skater
Day 1: First Skating Lesson
|
Beginning inline skater Doan-Trang Tran wants to skate
a full 26 mile marathon less than five months after her first inline skating lesson
and she invites us to follow along as she pursues that goal.
Here is the first entry in Trang's beginning marathon skater's diary:
April 24, 2004 was her very first day on inline skates.

My First Inline Skating Lesson
by Doan-Trang Tran
At my first
California Skate School
lesson I had a 2 hour session with skating instructor
Brian Gallagher. I learned how to:
-
Walk in my skates on a carpet
-
Fall down
-
Get up off the ground
-
Basic position for standing
-
How to start skating
-
How to stop with my heel brake
-
How to do an A-frame turn
|
How did I do at my first day? I was so excited and scared and I fell a
couple of times. It wasn't so bad.
That afternoon, I took my skates to
a local school in Redondo Beach to
practice what I learned at my first lesson. I spent an hour skating around the
empty playground. All I felt was my shins hurting and I got sunburned on
my shoulders because I forgot to use sunscreen.
