June 13 - June 19, 2004
My 8th week started with 3 hours of training on Saturday. I took
a regular class (2 hours session) and a one-hour marathon
clinic. I was so exhausted. My back muscles hurt so bad.
Saturday AM Beginner Class
For my regular class, I learned how to skate backwards, spin stop,
and do parallel turns with cones. I have to confess, I couldn't
do these at all. I tried hard, but I was not satisfied with
my performance. I went home for lunch and went back to the beach
parking lot on Vista Del Mar for a Marathon Clinic with Nat Holt
Saturday PM Marathon Clinic
There were 5 people signed up for the marathon clinic, but a few of them
had conflicting schedules with the first class. I was out there
with Nat and Ron. Ron is an experienced skater. Nat had to
instruct the two of us differently becaused of our different
skill levels. Nat showed us the strides and lateral. Nat
knew that I was very tired from my earlier class
so he was not too hard on me. I did
stride better but my back was really hurting. At the end of
the class, Nat and Ron went skating on the beach trail.
I streched my back, packed my stuff, and went home.
Monday: Long Distance Skating
Monday is my long distance skate day. I went to Playa del Rey
to skate on the beach trail. It was sunny day. I skated
approximate 8 miles for an hour and fifteen minutes. I did
not stop for any breaks but I did slow down after skating
up hills. I felt very good. I am more comfortable with my speed,
outside edge strides, and striding in a lower body position.
Tuesday: Tough Yoga Class
As promised to my yoga teacher, I went back to my regular
yoga class on Tuesday. I do power yoga. It's a tough workout
for an hour and thirty minutes class. I felt like my indurance
has been increased. I did not feel tired at all.
Wednesday and Saturday
I had a long practice session on Wednesday and
Saturday. I spent my time focus in paralel turns,
long strides, short strides and crossovers.
I still need a lot of practice.
